Our accomodation: The Galatia Villas

Today this post is all about feeling home when you’re far away from home.
When Marina and I were planning our trip to Santorini, we figured that we wanted to choose an accomodation that is far from being touristy and gives us the feeling of being at home. That’s how we came across “Galatia Villas” (http://www.galatiavillas.gr/de/). It is a small, family-run hotel that owns 10 rooms separated into six double-rooms and four studios. It has recently been renovated and is the 2013 and 2014 winner of the “Certificate of Excellence” from tripadvisor (www.tripadvisor.de) so that you can be sure to find yourself in a clean and appealing atmosphere.

Once you arrive, you are greeted by one of the hotel’s owners. You really come across a heartwarming welcome where everything you need to know about the island is explained to you – your way to supermarkets, typical Greek restaurants and the most famous sights in Fira.

Each room has a separate bathroom to it as well as a small balcony which we mainly used for our breakfast. You can also book the hotel breakfast during your stay at the hotel. Since we did not choose this option, I am not able to share my opinion on this in this post. Downstairs, next to the reception the hotel owns a small pool area with 4 sunbeds which are lovely decorated and very comfortable!

The hotel also has the perfect location for exploring the town of Fira. It is not located in one of the streets at the Caldera which are buzzing with tourists. You can find Galatia Villas in a 10-15 minute walking distance from the main square of Fira in a very quiet and relaxed surrounding, close to two small and one larger supermarket where you can find everything for breakfast or a quick lunch.

Aside from all these facts, there is one thing that brought a smile to our lips every morning and every night. The donkeys that used to be the only mode of transportation in Santorini where passing by our balcony day in and day out!
